They are looking for two civil guards and the girlfriend of one of them who were stuck in the basement of the Paiporta barracks.

Several Civil Guards were stuck last night on the roof of the Benemérita residence, in the Valencian town of Paiporta, due to the strong storm that has been hitting the Community for hours. However, two of the companions and the girlfriend of one of them were left in the flooded cellar without being able to get out and after midnight they could not be rescued, according to ‘Las Provincias’.

Despite multiple calls to 112, the collapse of the lines due to the number of incidents made the response difficult. From the barracks too Assistance has been requested from the Special Group on Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard, but the whirlwinds and the force of the water delayed the intervention of the divers.

According to ‘Las Provincias’, after midnight It was not possible to access the flooded areaalthough the basement of the Civil Guard barracks, they point out, is waterproof and is below the water level.

Previously, another colleague had tried to access the basement with a private car and had to be rescued when he was caught by rising water.

Police authorities estimate that at least 50 deaths were caused by DANA in the province of Valencia alone, although this number could increase over time and make it possible to assess the scale of the disaster.
