“They booed Márquez and me”

Ten years ago, Spanish motorcycle fans supported Valentino Rossi. Not even Jorge Lorenzochampion that year, nor to a Marc Marquez who had just arrived. The former MotoGP rider recalled this in his podcast ‘Dura la Vita’.

In Malaysia that season, Lorenzo confirmed his title. And he received whistles from the Spanish fans: “I already said it. Márquez and I arrived at the corralillo and “80% of the Spanish public booed us because they were ‘Rossistas’.”

“A few hours later, celebrating the title with my family, There were about 50 fans insulting my mother, saying we stole the championship from them. They were Spaniards and Rossistas…” said Jorge.

It was a moment of great tension, with fans clearly divided: “When I was Rossi’s rival… the fans were very divided. I would say hatred, as we see in football. Real Madrid – FC Barcelona. This year 2015 was super dramatic, very strong in terms of emotions and rivalry. Nothing to do with now. Before entering the paddock, you noticed this rivalry between Rossi, Lorenzo and Márquez.

And he remembers 2015 as his best title in the category: “It’s the title I’m most proud of.. I didn’t lead the championship in any race until the last one. I really suffered from it and I fought until the end because I had a lot of bad luck that year. But I didn’t throw in the towel.”
