On September 7th, the White Night took place in Zaragoza, an alternative games event aimed at young people and organized since 2016 in the Multipurpose Room of the Auditorium of Zaragoza, organized by the Club Tercios and the City Council of Zaragoza.
From 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., participants were able to enjoy activities that included role-playing games, board games, wargames and escape rooms over the years. However, just eight days before the event, the Zaragoza City Council announced its suspension “unilaterally”, as reported by Club Tercios, one of the event’s organizers.
On August 30, late in the afternoon, the Youth Service of the Zaragoza City Council announced the postponement of the White Night due to “the terms of the strike called by workers of companies benefiting from the Youth Zones Service, which means that we cannot guarantee that the event will take place under the necessary conditions.
From the Club, they denounce that this suspension occurred as a “political act” as a “tool to silence the voices of the workers of the Youth Zones of Zaragoza, who had announced a strike due to the budget cuts of the City Council, with stoppages during the event.”
From the Tercios Club, they assure that with the volunteers they could have assumed these breaks, “but the City Council decided to suspend them. The reasons are obvious: the workers cannot use an event in which thousands of people participate as a loudspeaker.”
In response to this cancellation, they are inviting participants to bring their favorite board game to the auditorium square next Saturday.
