In the midst of a storm surrounding the Errrejón affair and accusations of alleged sexual harassment of two municipal councilors by the mayor of Algeciras, Suspicions of sexual harassment now weigh on the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, belonging to the PP.
As reported by the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA), the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 5 of Estepona initiated preliminary procedure for an alleged offense of sexual harassment following a complaint received from a civil servant of the municipal council.
This legal body states that the complaint against García Urbano was presented last Wednesday, October 23, to the Deanery of Courts of Estepona and from there it was transferred to Court Five.
Currently, according to these judicial sources, The investigating judge only asked to take the complainant’s statements on a date yet to be determined. If the judge detects possible signs of a crime, the process will continue.
The official who reported this situation is on psychological leave and, according to his lawyer, he felt “threatened” to lose his job. The alleged facts crimes took place between March 2022 and June 2023.
A “false complaint”
The Estepona City Council assured that it was a “false” complaint and that García Urbano will put the matter in the hands of his lawyers.
“You will appear in the proceedings to request that listen to him, voluntarily and as quickly as possibleto highlight the absolute lack of basis for the said complaint,” he stressed.
The Estepono town hall emphasizes that “it is a unacceptable and unjust campaign to undermine personal dignity and the trajectory of the mayor and the position he occupies with a single and clearly fallacious objective.
