The researchers reportedly produced detailed maps of the cities of Tashbulak and Tugunbulak with lidar scans based on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and explored the city’s squares, fortress walls, roads and residential areas.
It should be noted that these medieval cities, located at 2000 meters above sea level, stand out as one of the commercial centers that developed in the mountains of the time. Tugunbulak is considered one of the largest cities of the time with its area of 120 hectares.
“These centers were important points of interaction on the Silk Road. Here, animals, precious metals and other resources were the lifeblood of trade,” the scientists emphasized.
“This finding provides important information about the role of Central Asia in the Silk Road and indicates that future studies can make new discoveries about the history of the region,” the researchers emphasized.
