They free 10 Nepalese women enslaved in a company in Candeleda: they were living in precarious conditions

The Civil Guard arrested three people as alleged perpetrators of human trafficking crimes, for the purposes of economic exploitation, falsification of documents and usurpation of civil status.

As reported by the Civil Guard, the investigation began as soon as it received suspicions that in a company dedicated to the manufacturing and marketing of packaged products and foods located in Candeleda, illegal activities related exploitation of labor could be committed.

Thus, on October 2, several agents carried out an exhaustive inspection of the aforementioned company, in order to verify whether irregularities were committed in working practices, whether the regulations in force were respected and whether its staff worked in safe conditions and legal. .

However, during the inspection and as part of Operation Lhotse, they located a group of 10 Nepalese women in a warehouse attached to the company, who were living in “extremely precarious” living and hygienic conditions. .

So much so that they slept on mattresses on the floor and in facilities without heating. Additionally, some windows were not glazed and were covered with plastic, allowing cold air and rain to enter.

For their part, the kitchen was clearly dirty and they had to share only one bathroom, which, according to the Civil Guard, made basic hygiene conditions difficult.

Added to all this is the fact that these 10 women lived in a regime of semi-slavery, deprived of papers and without access to money.

Furthermore, since their arrival, they have left the ship on rare occasions and always accompanied by a person belonging to the organization, who constantly monitored them.

They were completely isolated, knew no Spanish, and communicated with only a few words of English.

But that’s not it. The inspection also verified that the contracts concluded with these women were processed with false documents, since they were all irregularly in Spain.

Furthermore, the money from their salaries did not reach them, but was deposited in third party bank accounts.

For all these reasons, as soon as we became aware of all these events, the women were treated and then released, and human rights organizations, specialized in caring for people in vulnerable situations, took them into care. charge.

Likewise, it was proven that they all arrived in Spain through a company dedicated to human trafficking formed by the three detainees.

One of them was responsible for monitoring and controlling the victims and the other two were responsible for the food company where they worked.

So, after being identified, they were brought to justice for the events described.
