Heavy traffic jams have been observed in most streets and avenues of Baku in recent days, especially at the northern entrance to the capital and on roads leading to the Baku-Sumgait highway.
The closure or narrowing of central streets in the capital due to the Formula 1 races taking place over the weekend, the ban on driving from the Lokbatan bypass, which is the southern entrance to the city, towards the centre, and the parallel repair of several streets and avenues have caused a sharp increase in traffic tension in the city.
In some cases, drivers and passengers report that they have traveled 1-2 hours from Masazır Roundabout to 20 January Metro Station in 10 minutes over the past 3 days. The same situation continues in other directions: Ziya Bunyadov Avenue, Babek Avenue, Baku-Sumgait Highway, Baku-Shamakhi Highway, Binagadi Highway and other areas.
The State Traffic Police Department of Baku City reported that some of the roads restricted to Formula 1 races will be opened with some restrictions during the specified peak hours between September 11 and 13. This may lead to some reduction in traffic congestion.
