The 21st National Assembly of the Association of the Most Beautiful Cities in Spain incorporated seven new municipalities, including Letur, in the province of Albacete, which was devastated on October 29 by a flood that left six people dead.
The designation was unveiled in Aínsa (Huesca) in the presence of municipal representatives of the municipalities belonging to the network, which currently includes 116 localities. Besides Letur, the other six new municipalities that will be part of the association from 2025 are Llerena and Jerez de los Caballeros (Badajoz), Poza de la Sal (Burgos), Berlanga de Duero (Soria), La Fresneda and Linares de Mora (Teruel).
During the assembly, the association’s quality commission evaluated the applications presented by the candidate cities and analyzed aspects such as the conservation of their cultural heritage, their natural environment, their uniqueness and commitment to tourism sustainable.
In the case of Letur, the priority objective is to contribute to recovering the essence of this municipality as one of the most emblematic rural destinations of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as to guarantee the restoration of its cultural and natural heritage in the years to come.
Letur, known for its rich history, cobbled streets and distinctive Islamic architecture, has been a benchmark of rural beauty and authenticity for centuries. With its entry into the network, the association will provide the municipality with a national and international projection platform, as well as resources and technical advice to facilitate the reconstruction and sustainable development of its tourist infrastructure.
