The prosecutor of the Tarija department, Sandra Gutierrez, confirmed this Thursday that an arrest warrant had been issued against the former president of Bolivia Evo Morales after he failed to appear before the prosecution, where he was summoned to testify in the alleged child abuse and human trafficking case for which he is under investigation.
“We are already working on what corresponds to the law, what corresponds precisely to this, is to issue the arrest warrant, for those who have been duly warned without violation of any of their rights. A possible arrest would only further inflame tensions between Morales’ supporters and the current president, Luis Arce, who have been involved for years in a bitter dispute that not only divides the Bolivian left, but also raises serious doubts about the immediate political future.
