They issue an arrest warrant for Evo Morales for failing to appear to testify in a child abuse case

The prosecutor of the Tarija department, Sandra Gutierrez, confirmed this Thursday that an arrest warrant had been issued against the former president of Bolivia Evo Morales after he failed to appear before the prosecution, where he was summoned to testify in the alleged child abuse and human trafficking case for which he is under investigation.

“We are already working on what corresponds to the law, what corresponds precisely to this, is to issue the arrest warrant, for those who have been duly warned without violation of any of their rights. Simply, the warrant “The arrest warrant that is issued will be so that they can appear to present their statement,” he told the media.

Gutiérrez clarified that the measure also concerned the victim’s parents, who also did not appear at the summons. “Two briefs were presented without notification,” he assured, before asserting that “everything is done transparently and adhered to the legal standard.”

Morales’s circle of allies assured that he would not testify, saying his life was in danger. “He received death threats”they assured.

A possible arrest would only further inflame tensions between Morales’ supporters and the current president, Luis Arce, who have been involved for years in a bitter dispute that not only divides the Bolivian left, but also raises serious doubts about the immediate political future.

According to the investigation, Morales could be responsible for child abuse and human trafficking for certain acts he committed in 2016 when he was president of Bolivia, for example. a relationship with a minor under 15 years old, from which a daughter was born.
