“They only control me because I am black”: Exhibition on immigrants cancelled in Germany

An exhibition of photographs and texts about immigrants from the Middle East and Africa has been cancelled in the German city of Pirna. The content of the exhibition was considered too extreme.

A presentation on the life of 37 immigrants in Pirna was scheduled for 25 September at the town hall. However, the photographs were removed from the walls of the foyer and hallway today. According to the newspaper Welt, the exhibition “provoked a strong reaction among visitors”.

“In this sense, from our point of view, the exhibition does not serve to destroy prejudices that were communicated in advance, but rather to strengthen them.” – said the Pirna municipality.

In particular, the exhibition focused on statements by immigrants such as “We were locked up like in dungeons,” “[Полиция] checks just because I’m black”, “I have no life in Germany!”

“All these statements caused understandable discontent and misunderstanding among citizens and employees of the district administration, so the immediate dismantling was organized.” – Welt continues.

Eva Howitz The Schwarzenberg Migrant Support Group is outraged by the actions of the authorities:

“This is the first incident of this kind. This process is outrageous! The fact that state power relies on images based on complaints is a new dimension. We are shocked by this action!”

EADaily adds that the mayor of Pirna Tim Lochner He is a supporter of the Alternative for Germany party. He recently made headlines by banning the sodomite flag from flying at the town hall. In a comment on social media, the mayor compared the controversial rainbow flag to the swastika flag of the Third Reich.
