Venezuelan ecologists saved a crocodile with oil spots and “small”, wounded in the area near Lake Marakaibo, the largest in the country, in the state of Zulia, on the border with Colombia.
The reptile was found by neighbors in a residential area, known as the Golden Island, baptized, since it is an artificial island located on the riot police of Lake to the capital of Zulia.
We noticed some small ragged wounds that could be caused by the place where it was, which looked like a sink, an old boat, and this type of wound could be caused there. But, obviously, this is normal, ”said EFE President of the Association of Veterinary Students in the Wild nature of Luis Moran.
He also said that the animal was delivered to a quieter place, with a slight noise and scarce human contact, to stabilize it and begin to remove oil spots.
For his part, the President of the EcoAveventura environmental organization, Jose Sandoval, said to EFE that, probably, the entire body of the crocodile was a lot of oil, but when swimming through the lake with temperature changes and the remaining raw remains of oil bacteria were released.

Sandival said that this year they saved “few” types of oil full of oil around Lake Marakaibo, including turtles, her turtle, flamingos and cats.

“This is the first kaiman that we save, because these are animals that dive, and because the body full of oil, when we follow them, they immediately seize water,” he explained.
The ecologist said that oil spills in the region “almost disappeared.”

In February last year, the Institute for Monitoring and Preservation of the Marakaibo Lake basin, an organization attached to the Ministry of Socialism, said that state workers have been extracted from August 2023 this month, a total of 320,604 tons of solid waste of this reservoir, including those that prescribed oil.
In July 2023, the President of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, announced the “special plan” to deactivate Lake Marakaibo, which suffered from oil spills, mergers and proliferation of a bacteria called Verdin, among other factors.
