The toy company Mattelmanufacturer of barbiewas prosecuted this Tuesday for having included the link to a pornographic page on the packaging of certain dolls from the film ‘Wicked’ put on sale last November.
Mattel mistakenly included the link to the pornographic site on its dolls Nasty imageswhich has a similar title to the official page of the film distributed by Universal Pictures and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
This is a class action lawsuit and one of the plaintiffs, Holly Ricketson, says she purchased the product for her youngest daughter, who opened the link and saw what they looked like.pornographic images of full nudes which showed real sex.
According to the California complaint, Ricketson’s daughter quickly showed him the images “and they were both horrified by what they saw”: “If Plaintiff had known of such an inappropriate defect in the product, she wouldn’t have bought it. “, underlines.
The plaintiffs are asking Mattel for repair of damage “because the products are adulterated, lack value and are unsuitable for their intended audience.”
The toy company, which eventually pulled the dolls from the market, issued a statement in November acknowledging “a typographical error” in its packaging and recommending that buyers “discard the box or hide the link.”
The controversy, which went viral on social networks, does not seem to have affected the film, which has grossed $360 million worldwide since its release.
