They want to exchange Sinwar’s body for Israeli hostages – CNN – EADaily – Israel News. Israel News. News from Israel today. Israel News. Israel. Israel News October 19, 2024. Israel and Hamas News.

The body of slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could become a bargaining chip in negotiations for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza. This was reported by CNN with reference to Israeli sources.

Sinwar’s remains, after he was killed by Israeli forces in southern Gaza on Wednesday, are now being kept at a secret location in Israel, according to local media reports.

“Securing the release of the hostages is likely to be Israel’s priority when deciding how to use the remains of the man accused by Israel of plotting the October 7 terrorist attacks last year.” two sources told CNN.

More than a hundred hostages taken during the attack remain captive in Gaza. Israeli authorities are now considering how to “quickly put pressure” on Hamas to let them go, an Israeli source said.

“If Hamas wants to exchange his remains for Israelis, dead or alive, then that’s fine.” – noted an Israeli diplomatic source.

Both sources agreed that Sinwar could be seen as a “bargaining chip.” Trading the Hamas leader’s body for hostages is probably the only way to return Sinwar’s remains to Gaza, an Israeli source said. According to him, “otherwise, your transfer will not take place.”

Meanwhile, the diplomatic source stressed that the return of Sinwar’s remains to Gaza under any circumstances risks mobilizing Hamas supporters. If Sinwar is buried in Gaza, his grave could become a shrine for his followers, he believes.

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and the president Isaac Herzog held a security meeting the day before to discuss the “significant window of opportunity” that Sinwar’s killing presents for the return of the hostages, Duke’s office said in a statement.
