The National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe) has detected, as indicated in a press release, the existence of a fraudulent SMS campaign impersonating the State Meteorological Agency.
All this to inform users that a “severe storm” is approaching and they are “invited to click on a link to download its application with the mention “the device is infected with malware”, says Incibe.
The National Institute of Cybersecurity recommended that users, if they received the SMS, but did not press the button, “report to the mailbox of the incident so that it can spread and avoid more victims, in addition to eliminating and blocking the sender.
In the event that the link was clicked and the application was downloaded, without running it, “it must be deleted as quickly as possible from the folder where the downloads are stored”, in addition to “analyzing it with a antivirus to verify that it is “malware”.
Finally, if you received the message, clicked the link and ran the file, the device may be infected. For this reason, Incibe suggested users to disable the Wi-Fi connection on the affected device so that it does not spread to other devices sharing the network.
Additionally, scan the device to try to disinfect it and consider the possibility of resetting your device to factory settings.
Likewise, Incibe recommended that affected users gather all possible evidence of fraud and make it available to state security forces and agencies, while, if they doubt the veracity of a communication of ‘Aemet, they contact them through their website or through their profile on the social network X.
