It was one of the most important drug workshops in Spain, closed until 2016. With the help of the Special Operations Group (GEO), investigators had just dismantled a clandestine laboratory, called in slang “kitchen”, perfectly prepared and ready for the production and handling of cocaine. “One of the most important drug workshops dismantled in Spain”, according to what was said at the time by the chief commissioner of the Central Narcotics Brigade, Ricardo Toro.
In addition to the experienced “cook”, four Spaniards fell, including the ringleader. Some were on site and others were on their way. Inside the house, investigators found 5,820 liters of chemicals contained in bottles and 375 kilograms of chemicals, such as mannitol, potassium permanganate, caffeine, tetracaine hydrochloride, calcium chloride, tetramisole and procaine. There were also two hydraulic presses and another made of wood and metal, among other utensils.
Five days later, the National Police publicly announced the seizure of 22 kilograms of cocaine during this operation, although in the indictment of the Toledo prosecutor’s office, the amount of the quantities seized is ostensibly lower: 933.7 kilograms of cocaine. In addition, the leader of the group was found with 1,610 euros at his home, an amount that came from an intermediation in the sale and purchase of cocaine, according to the Public Ministry.
At the time of his arrest, the “chef” expert had been serving two years of a six-year prison sentence, handed down in 2008, for crimes against public health and membership in a criminal organization, as well as a fine of 20,000 euros. euros. After his arrest, he and his four alleged accomplices were placed in pre-trial detention for several months and managed to avoid prison by paying bail.
Next Wednesday, everyone is summoned to the Provincial Court of Toledo. There, each will face a prison sentence ranging from three years and three months to five years and three months, in addition to a fine.
