Podemos spokesperson in Congress, Javier Sánchez Serna, warned the government that approving the maintenance of the tax on energy companies is a sine qua non condition for his party to be able to sit at the negotiating table on the General State Budgets (PGE). ) from 2025.
To obtain Podemos’ support for the tax reform approved last week, the PSOE had to promise the “purple” party to convene a table at which the entire inauguration bloc would be present to develop a bill that would make permanent energy tax. Podemos wants to use this same table to increase taxes on diesel, even though it voted against this objective during the tax reform.
“We believe that this table must meet as soon as possible“, because we are waiting for both the tax on diesel and the tax on energy companies, for which the State could stop earning around 2 billion euros”, underlined Sánchez Serna this Tuesday during a press conference .
At this point, the spokesperson linked this negotiating table to budgets, while warning the Executive that if it wants to prosper in budget negotiations, it must “access the demands” of Podemos without claiming that “they are impossible”. These demands are the severance of diplomatic and commercial relations with Israel and a “substantial” reduction in rental prices.
“It is a question of political will and the Government, if it wants to present the Budgets, will have to demonstrate that it has the political will to resolve two problems which cannot be ignored,” he concluded.
Sumar says there is no date yet
Despite the urgency that Podemos demands, Sumar’s spokesperson in Congress, Verónica Martínez Barbero, also indicated in a press conference that at present no date has been set for the convocation from this negotiating table.
Regarding Sumar, the spokesperson for the plurinational group warned the PSOE that her party will make housing a “central issue” in budget negotiations.
