We are living in a time of great controversy due to the confrontation between Justice and the ZBE. It should not be forgotten that regional governments continue their intention to reduce pollution as much as possible. What they do is ban the cars that produce the most emissions from driving in cities.
These areas pose a real problem because, due to their low purchasing power, they cannot afford buying a car with the characteristics required by these guidelines, but also for the neighbors who are in these areas.
The number of restrictions that complicate our routines is increasing
Citizens already have enough problems in their daily lives, so these kinds of gestures complicate and discourage people’s opinions in this regard.
Since vehicles are very expensive, the truth is that they are not affordable for everyone. In this regard, taking care of the planet is now a concern for leaders.
The DGT and its position
It is well known that the General Directorate of Traffic has been the cornerstone of the implementation of the ZBE. What was done was to follow the planned plan, so that vehicles with the B label could not drive in these places.
Vehicles which do not respect this rule will be severely sanctioned. As it is a measure that will ultimately affect a significant social mass, it will be approved gradually, so it will be divided into a series of two-year sections and will follow specific regulations.
Which community will be the first to implement this measure?
Catalonia will be the protagonistsince he will be the first to be a leader in this sense, seeking the elimination of pollution in the streets. Regarding all this, the planning of the candidacy has been approved by the Generalitat with a calendar that will indicate the most important dates of said event.
We are talking about a restriction that will end up affecting the 23 cities that will have more than fifty thousand inhabitants, where we can talk about Barcelona, Tarragona or Gironaamong others.
What restrictions are there currently in Catalonia and when will the new ones be implemented?
January 1, 2026 will be a palpable reality, even if it will not be imperative. The truth is that this approach to these vehicles that we have mentioned will mean that their passage will be completely prohibited on the days when the non-pollution protocol is applied, so it will depend on the day and the pollution levels, For all this we will have to wait January 3, 2028 in which the restrictions will be total, without any exceptions.
From now on, these cars will be able to circulate in the ZBE, unless they are so-called special protection cars.
Of course, these types of cars will not be able to park in restricted parking zones. For all this, all that remains is to wait and see what the outcome and consequences of said event will be and if the rest of the communities will follow in their footsteps.
A complicated future
If until recently we were talking about the complexity of the future of cars without labels, but they were far from being thirty years old to be considered historic vehicles, the same can be said of those which have a label B. .
Many vehicles travel on our roads and are part of them. For all this, we will see how gradually many of them will leave our cities.
Many of them will be sold to drive in areas with fewer restrictions or hopefully rural areas, and others with fewer will end up scrapped.
The truth is that one way or another, our country’s automobile fleet is progressing relentlessly and seeking to end harmful emissions released into the atmosphere.
Of course, let’s hope that the European Union will do more unanimous respect for these measures and that they do not change, since there are relations between countries which are not equal.
Without going any further, in France the labels work differently and are made compulsory for Spaniards traveling there.
