This is the latest edition of the design competition that dresses the capital

The Spanish designer Nicolas Montenegro put the finishing touches to the latest edition of Madrid is fashion. From September 7 to 11, the main Spanish designers presented their proposals in events and fashion shows held in the most emblematic spaces and monuments of the city. Five days in which fashion and Madrid were the absolute protagonists.

A pioneer in the diffusion of fashion on the street, Madrid es Moda is a project organized by the Association of Fashion Designers of Spain (ACME) with the support of the Madrid Fashion Capital program of the Consistory. Reinvented in September 2020 to face the consequences of the pandemic on the industry, its objective is to promote knowledge and consumption of the Spanish “slow fashion” and bet on the guidelines currently set by the sector: new ways of presenting and consuming fashion that move away from the confinement of the seasons.

“This September, two of the great objectives of Madrid is Fashion have been achieved: bringing fashion to the street, closer to the end consumer, and having the opportunity to contextualize the collections in the cultural, museum and emblematic environments of the city of Madrid. Share space with Goya, Arcimboldo or parading in such special and representative places enriches our creative work and shows the city and its secrets,” says Modesto Lomba, president of ACME. The designer himself presented his new proposals last Monday in the classes of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.

“In this edition, Madrid is Fashion makes history: the opening at Puerta de Alcalá has brilliantly demonstrated the power of Spanish fashion design, framed by the monument that represents Madrid par excellence. Uniting the values of Spanish slow fashion with the emblematic corners of the capital is an operation that places us on a par with Paris or Milan, cities that have always known how to promote an industry as relevant as fashion through its historic and representative spaces”, adds Pepa Bueno, executive director of ACME and institutional director of Madrid es Moda.
