The passage of the fateful DANA left, in addition to serious flooding and numerous human losses, an increase in water level of the seven reservoirs of Malaga. Until a little over a week ago, this province was experiencing a critical situation in their marshes, which were at 15%. Now, even though the province continues to be on alert due to drought, the wetlands have the double of water only the week of October 21.
As ABC has verified thanks to the data offered by the Hidrosur network of the Junta de Andalucía, the marshes of Málaga are located after the rains at 30% of its capacity. Concretely, they accumulate 141.14 cubic hectometers (hm3) out of the total of 611.48 hm3 that they could have.
By tanks, the one with the highest percentage of water is the Casasolawhich is at 55.7%. The second is that of Designwhich is at 54.5%, and the third is that of Count Guadalhorcewhich is at 38.5%. Below average are the Lemon (17.7%), that of Guadalteba (17.2%), that of Vinuela (15%) and that of Guadalhorce (13.65%).
Thus, those who increased their reservations of water after the passage of the DANA are those of the Count of Guadalhorce (11.86 hm3), that of Guadalteba (8.99 hm3) and that of La Concepción (7.24 hm2).
Below are the data per cubic hectometer of each reservoir according to the information offered by the Hidrosur network:
La Viñuela
The La Viñuela reservoir, with a capacity of 164.37 hm3, went from 22.06 hm3 on October 25 of this year to 24.63 hm3 today, which is why it increased its reserves by 2.57 hm3.
This swamp is the one more capacity owns the entire province, which is why it plays a crucial role in the management of the region’s water resources. It is located in the Guaro River and is used to regulate the flow, as well as to provide water for various uses, such as human consumption and agricultural irrigation. In addition to its primary function of storing water, the reservoir also creates a natural environment that can be used for recreational and tourism activities, such as fishing, water sports and hiking in its surroundings.
Guadalhorce
The Guadalhorce reservoir is the second with the largest capacity in the province of Malaga (125.72 hm3). On October 25, it contained 9.95 hm3 and today it houses 5:15 p.m.3it therefore now has 7.20 hm3 more than a little over a week ago. It is the third which grew the most after the passage of DANA.
This swamp plays a crucial role in regulating the flow of the river, allowing the supply of water for various uses, such as population supply, agricultural irrigation and other purposes.
For its part, the marsh Count of Guadalhorce It has a capacity of 66.49 hm3. Although on October 25 it had 13.76 hm3, it currently houses 25.62 hm, its capacity has therefore increased by 11.86 hm3 and is therefore the one that the more he increased his reserves after DANA.
Guadalteba
The Guadalteba reservoir, which has a capacity of 153.30 hm3, held 17.33 hm3 just over a week ago. Today this figure has increased to 26.32 hm3, meaning it has 8.99 hm3 more and that’s it second which increased its reserves the most due to last week’s precipitation.
This reservoir is part of the hydraulic system of the Guadalhorce River basin. Its construction was carried out mainly to regulate the flow of the Guadalteba and Guadalhorce rivers, thus ensuring the supply of water for different uses, such as supplying the population and agricultural irrigation.
Lemon
The Limonero reservoir, with a total capacity of 22.34 hm3, went from 3.37 hm3 October 25 3.96 today, it therefore increased by 0.59 hm3 after DANA.
This reservoir plays a crucial role in regulating the flow of the Guadalmedina River and providing water for various purposes, such as irrigation and supplying the population. In addition to contributing to flood protection, this reservoir constitutes an important hydraulic infrastructure which plays an essential role in ensuring the region’s water supply, particularly in periods of drought. Its natural environment also offers opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking, providing a space combining utility and enjoyment of nature.
The design
The La Concepción reservoir has a capacity of 57.54 hm3 and, although on October 25 it contained 24.12 hm3 of water, today it has 31.36 hm3, so after the passage of the DANA it has 7.24 hm3 more.
This reservoir is located on the Verde River and its main functions are flow regulation, water supply for agricultural uses and population supply. In addition to its importance from an aquatic point of view, the La Concepción reservoir also offers an attractive natural environment, with opportunities for recreational activities and enjoyment of the landscape.
Casasola
The Casasola reservoir has a capacity of 21.72 cubic hectometers. After the passage of DANA, it went from 4.30 hm3 to 12.1 hm3, which means 7.8 hm3 more.
This marsh covers an area of 112 hectares. It is located on the Campanillas River, a tributary of the Guadalhorce, protecting the municipality of Campanillas from flooding and reducing the flow to the Guadalhorce River. In addition, it strengthens the water supply of the city of Malaga.
