THE Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP Foundation) already has its fourth major active exhibition: Irving Penn: Centennialorganized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in collaboration with the Irving Penn Foundation and organized by Jeff L. Rosenheimcurator Joyce Frank Menschel in charge of the Photography field The Met.

The sample, the most complete of it prolific photographer never shown in our country, pIt can be visited until May 1 next year at the MOP Foundation exhibition center located in the port area of ​​La Coruña.

Irving Penn: Centennialcreated in 2017 on the occasion of the centenary of the artist’s birth, celebrates his incomparable career in all its breadth; from its beginnings in the late 1930s to the early years of the 21st century.

Composed of more than 160 photographs and other unique pieces, such as the backdrop he used in his studiothe exhibition encompasses all facets of Penn’s prolific work: fashion photographs; exquisite nudes and floral arrangements; still lifes for which he had a predilection all his life; numerous portraits of personalities who made him famous; or his photographic series of ordinary people taken in different corners of the world.

Composed of more than 160 photographs

On the occasion of the arrival of Irving Penn: Centennial in A Coruña, the MOP Foundation, in addition, exclusively publishes the Spanish catalog of the exhibitiona must-see for any admirer of the artist’s work or the history of 20th century photography.

This volume offers one of the largest selections of Penn’s photographs –nearly 300 in total–, including both his most iconic images and his previously unpublished works, as well as a series of essays that provide insight into the photographer’s main themes and works.

MOP center and bookstore

Like every year,Visitors will discover a new scenography in the ship and in the outdoor space of the MOP Foundation designed especially for the exhibition. In addition, inside the Silo, the MOP Foundation reopens its bookstore specializing in photography, fashion, design and other artistic disciplines: MOP – The Bookstore.

Since its creation in 2022, the MOP Foundation has structured its activity around three central pillars: photography, fashion and its deep connection with La Coruña. Since then, the Foundation has promoted three important exhibitions: Peter Lindbergh. Untold Stories (2021-22), Steven Meisel 1993 A Year in Photographs (2022-23) and Helmut Newton – Fact & Fiction (2023-24).

THE entrance to exhibitions promoted by the MOP Foundation is free. The profits generated by the sale of merchandising allowed the creation of the program Future Storiesaimed at supporting young creators at the start of their artistic career. The MOP Foundation also an artist-led educational program which revolves around their exhibitions and which aims to bring the figure of these great photographers into Galician classrooms and thus promote an in-depth knowledge of their work.
