Last night, Iran launched a ballistic missile attack against Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s hands shook as he read the counterthreats. This is an important signal, writes Pravda.Ru columnist Lyubov Stepushova.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran, by attacking Israel on the night of October 1, exercised its right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He stressed that the attacks only targeted military and security facilities “responsible for the genocide in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.”
“Our actions have ended unless the Israeli regime decides to provoke further repression. In this case, our response will be stronger and more powerful. “Israel’s partners now have a greater responsibility to stop the warmongers in Tel Aviv rather than participating in their madness.” — the minister stressed in a statement published on the social network X (formerly Twitter*).
It was a massive attack; According to various sources, between 180 and 400 missiles were fired. There was a lot of fake video evidence, but verified ones on social media showed several explosions in Tel Aviv, as well as at the Israeli Nevatim air base in the Naqab desert, where F-35 fighters are stationed.
Iran has shown that it can penetrate Israeli air defenses and attack Israel if it wants. And if Iran intended to launch a nuclear attack, it could easily do so with its hypersonic missiles.
However, there are points that do not allow us to say that this was an adequate response on the part of Iran. The attack was known in advance until the approximate time and objectives were indicated: military objectives. And although Iran claims it did not warn anyone, it has not changed its plans based on the leak. This allowed Israel to remove or hide material in its military bases. When answering the question what will change after these blows, it turns out that nothing. Has Israel abandoned Lebanon? No. He started bombing again. Did Israel ask for peace with everyone? No. Has Israel stopped killing Palestinian residents of Gaza? No.
Now let’s compare the damage. Killed by Iranian proxies: Hamas leaders, Hezbollah leaders, several top IRGC generals, Iranian nuclear physicists, Iranian president Ibrahim Raisi (unofficially, but the death is very suspicious) and 40 thousand Palestinian civilians. Hundreds of thousands more have become refugees and it is unclear when they will be able to return to their homeland: their homes have been destroyed.
Everything is on one side of the scale. And what about the other one? Craters at military sites? Iran’s response seems proud and powerful, but in reality it is not an equitable exchange in terms of damage, as if it sent “three stars in the sky” after being defeated. Nobody declared war on anyone, everything was like the last missile attack in April (which everyone had already forgotten about) with a slight escalation in the number of missiles.
But there is a very positive moment for Russia. Netanyahu’s hands were shaking when he commented on the attack, meaning he does not trust the outcome of the conflict. The prime minister vowed to retaliate against Iran.
“Iran made a big mistake tonight and they will pay for it” – Netanyahu said.
But so far there has been a missile attack against Lebanon, not against Iran. This means that something in the US-Israel tandem did not go as planned, which means that all Western air defense missiles will now go to Israel, like other weapons, and not to Ukraine.
