Given the tragic floods that occurred in the municipalities of Valencia, the administrations have set to work so that if a DANA with these characteristics hits their territory I have nothing to regret misfortunes.

Faced with this hypothetical emergency caused by the flooding of a river or ravine, the Government of Aragon proposed improving the protocols of the regions so that they know them better and know how to apply emergency and evacuation plans provided for in the Territorial Civil Protection Plan of Aragon (Platear).

This is the objective of the conferences on civil protection aimed at regional presidents and technicians that councilor Octavio López announced this Monday during the meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council which took place at the headquarters of the Government of Aragon.

“Unfortunately, we have just witnessed a dramatic event that devastated Valencia, causing more than 200 deaths and a worrying number of missing people, and this forces us to be on guard to be able to deal so effectively with a hypothetical emergency of this type as possible”, underlined the development manager. “Our priority must always be safeguard the lives of people and, as far as possible, their homes and material possessionsand in this task, knowledge of plans and rapid reaction are crucial,” he added.

Aragon was also a victim of the last two DANAs, the one at the end of August and the beginning of September and the one two weeks ago. Even if it did not cause any casualties, it caused enormous material damage in 68 municipalities in five regions: Calatayud Community, Cariñena Region, Mining Basins, Bajo Aragón-Caspe and Sierra de Albarracín.

For this reason, the advisor stressed that these plans must be valued so that they work properly. “We have to put value on this children know that from time to time they need to do an exerciseso do the elderly,” he explained. This way, everyone knows exactly how to behave when they find themselves in a green, yellow, orange or red zone.

In this way, Octavio López decided to organize practical sessions aimed at preventive action in a threat or natural disaster scenario which results in increased security for citizens. A new training action in which Aragón 112 technicians will explain the chains of command and how information should flow in an emergency.

“We must do everything possible because civil protection plans to be known by your teams, with clear managers and chains of command, telephone numbers and the most effective forms of contact at all times and mechanisms for transmitting information between those responsible for decisions and for the population”, explained López to the regional presidents.

Furthermore, Octavio López emphasized that Help lines are being studied to strengthen, update and develop municipal plansin particular in riverside municipalities and others considered particularly dangerous on the map and catalog of risks of Aragon due to their geographical location or the industrial activity that takes place in their municipal area.
