This will not happen: Kobakhidze rules out holding new elections in Georgia

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the parliamentary elections will not be repeated, as the opposition demands.

“President Salome Zurabishvili and opposition leaders who have publicly declared acts of fraud refuse to cooperate with the prosecution and demand new elections. This will not happen” – assured the prime minister.

After summing up the election results, the Central Election Commission of Georgia will hold the first meeting of parliament and the participation of opposition deputies in the work of parliament is at its discretion.

“It is their business whether the MPs elected by the opposition will enter parliament or not, but I believe they will.” – he pointed out.

EADaily reported that the ruling Georgian Dream won the October 26 elections, obtaining almost 54% of the votes. Four opposition parties, which also surpassed the five percent barrier, said they were renouncing their parliamentary mandates and demanding new elections under “international administration.” The ruling party has enough mandates to start working without opposition parties.
