Thousands of demonstrators in Barcelona demand an end to Israeli ‘genocide’ in Palestine

Thousands of people demonstrated this Sunday in the center of Barcelona to demand an end to the “genocide” in Palestine and to demand that the government sever relations with Israel and not sell it weapons.

Under the motto “Let’s stop the genocide in Palestine. Enough arms trade with Israel,” the demonstration is part of a wave of mobilizations called this weekend around the world, coinciding with the first anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel and the start of the military offensive Israeli in Gaza.

During the march, which began in Jardinets de Gràcia and ended in Plaça Catalunya, demonstrators, many of whom carried Palestinian flags or wore the traditional kufiya headscarf, chanted slogans such as “Boycott Israel.” , “Where there are, invisible, the sanctions against Israel”, “Israel kills, Europe sponsors”, “Generalitat, prou compllicitat” or even “It’s not a war, it’s a genocide”.

The organizers of the demonstration, at the call of the Palestinian Community of Catalonia, the Solidarity Network against the Occupation of Palestine and the “Enough complicity with Israel” platform, demand an end to the sale of weapons to Israel and that the country be held accountable for its actions. their “crimes”.

The protest is also directed against the Generalitat, which the demonstrators demand to stop “promoting” the arms trade with Israel.

The demonstration brought together, among others, Comuns-Sumar MEP Jaume Asens and CUP MP Laure Vega, as well as the historic leader of the ERC David Minoves, president of the Escarré International Center for Ethnic and National Minorities (CIEMEN). .

Also participating in the protest are the general secretaries of the UGT and CCOO unions of Catalonia, Camil Ros and Javier Pacecho, the former anti-corruption prosecutor Carlos Jiménez Villarejo and representatives of the Lebanese and Palestinian community of Barcelona.
