Israeli police arrested three people linked to the launch of two flares against the courtyard of the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuyou, in the city of Caesarea, this morning.
The three suspects were transferred to the joint unit of the National Security Service, Shin Bet, and Lahav Unit 433 of the Israel Police. The latter said in a press release that “more details will be provided later, depending on the progress of the investigation”.
The detainees are, according to police sources, three well-known activists from the protest movements against the prime ministeramong them a reserve lieutenant colonel who is considered one of the leaders of the marches to Caesarea, according to the newspaper ‘Yedioth Aharonoth’.
The devices did not cause any damageas reported in a joint statement from the police and the Shin Bet. Additionally, they emphasized that Netanyahu and his family were not at the property at the time.
They have now opened an investigation into this “serious incident which represents a dangerous escalation”, according to the Israeli newspaper “The Times of Israel”.
The Israeli opposition condemned the incidentwhile ministers like National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir warned of “attacks on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that already exceed all limits.” “Today it is an eruption and tomorrow it will be a real fire,” warned Ben Gvir after condemning this “attack against Netanyahu and his family”.
At the same time, the Minister of Justice, Yariv Levin, advocated the resumption of the controversial judicial reform in response to this “link in the chain of violent and anarchist actions which aim at the assassination of the Prime Minister and the dismissal of the government elected by violent means.”
