Tiraspol responded to Chisinau’s call for security in Moldova’s presidential elections

The Pridnestrovia delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC, the joint leading body of the peacekeeping operation in the Dniester) made an appeal today, October 17, about the upcoming elections to be held in Moldova on Sunday .

A week ago, the Moldovan delegation asked to ensure stability and calm at polling stations on voting day and also asked not to interfere with the free movement of citizens. Today’s statement by Tiraspol representatives was a response to Chisinau.

“From that call we saw that there is a willingness to cooperate. The Pridnestrovie delegation made the same emphasis that we are also ready for this cooperation, for the freedom of movement of people in the Security Zone, for openness, to prevent the escalation of tension and to respond to all those aspects that may be within our competence. of the JCC”, — noted the OKC co-president Oleg Beliakov.

At the same time, he reminded the Moldovan side of a series of provocations to which Pridnestrovians who had previously participated in the electoral events in Moldova were subjected.

There will be 27 sites open in the Safety Zone. All of them are located on the territory of Moldova. Previously, the president Vadim Krasnoselskyand the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vitaly Ignatiev He called on the inhabitants of the republic to be attentive and take care of their safety on election day.

“Taking into account the previous negative experience, the Pridnestrovian delegation to the JCC calls on the Moldovan side to make appropriate efforts to prevent recurrence of aggression and threats to the personal safety of the inhabitants of Pridnestrovia who have expressed their desire to participate in the vote. “We also urge you to avoid provocations and politicized restrictions associated with attempts to block road infrastructure and checkpoints.” – says the document.

Belyakov, in order to avoid excesses, also recommended that representatives of the Central Election Commission of Moldova refrain from traveling with portable ballot boxes to the territory of Transnistria.

He described these actions as unauthorized, since there are no corresponding agreements between the central electoral commissions and the leaders of the two countries.

“There are no agreements on interaction between the central electoral commissions of the parties and, therefore, there are no corresponding orders. The issue has also not been agreed upon at the level of the executive authorities of Transnistria and Moldova. At the same time, previous requests from the Pridnestrovian side with similar requests to ensure the implementation of electoral rights of Pridnestrovian citizens on the territory of the Republic of Moldova were invariably answered with categorical refusals.” – stated the Pridnestrovian side.

Directly on election day, law enforcement officers and peacekeepers in Pridnestrovia will act as usual.

“It is not advisable to carry out an intensive work regimen. As for the peacekeepers, they will also serve as usual, since our mechanism works very well, it is enough with the competence within which they daily carry out their tasks of monitoring the situation in the Security Zone,” – Oleg Belyakov concluded.

The presidential elections in Moldova will be held on October 20, the same day as the constitutional referendum on European integration. Previously, the president of the PMR, Vadim Krasnoselsky, assured that the authorities of Transnistria will not prevent its citizens from participating in these events. In addition, Tiraspol allowed the possibility of holding a referendum on the attitude towards the European Union on its territory “to obtain the real opinion of all Pridnestrovians.”

As reported EADaily Transnistria’s statement about its readiness to hold a European referendum on its territory in Chisinau was described as “manipulation carried out under the direction of external forces.” The Reintegration Policy Office of Moldova highlighted that “the opening of polling stations in an uncontrolled perimeter, where there is no guarantee of the security of the process, nor certainty that there will be no external interference that could affect the result, is contrary to the law. ”.
