Tokayev signed a decree on holding a referendum on the construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on holding a republican referendum on October 6, 2024. The text of the decree was published on the official website of the administration of the head of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to the document it is decided:

  1. Hold a republican referendum on October 6, 2024.
  2. Submit the following question to the republican referendum: “Do you agree with the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan?”
  3. Officially publish this Decree in the media on September 3, 2024.
  4. To entrust the organization and conduct of the republican referendum to the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which performs the functions of the Central Referendum Commission, as well as to territorial and district election commissions, which perform the functions of territorial and district referendum commissions.
  5. The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other central state and local executive bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, take the necessary measures to organize and hold a republican referendum.
  6. This Decree enters into force on the date of its signature.
