Commercial turnover between Russia and Kyrgyzstan has increased, even though some Kyrgyz banks have suspended operations with Russian banks that have been subject to Western sanctions. This was stated by the Russian ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Sergei Vakunov, reports Sputnik Kyrgyzstan.
According to the diplomat, some Kyrgyz banks have suspended their operations with Russia under the threat of being disconnected from the SWIFT system.
“This is a forced measure, and this is exactly how Kyrgyzstan’s leaders are treating it,” – said Vakunov.
He stressed that more and more countries, including those in Central Asia, are coming to the conclusion that it is impossible to constantly look back on illegal sanctions.
The ambassador recalled that during the seven months of 2024, the trade turnover between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation increased by almost 27% compared to the same period last year.
“This suggests that trade is developing. “More than 90 percent of trade transactions between our countries are carried out in rubles.” – concluded Vakunov.
