A methane gas explosion has occurred at a coal mine in South Khorasan province in eastern Iran.

19 miners lost their lives in the natural disaster.
Javad Kanaat, governor of South Khorasan province, speaking to Iranian state television, said a methane gas explosion occurred last night in two blocks of a coal mine in the Tebes district of the province.
Saying that 17 other miners were injured, the Iranian official said a total of 69 people were working in the mine blocks and that rescue efforts by specialist teams were continuing.
