The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has awarded for just over 7 million euros (VAT included) the work to adapt section 4.6 of the N-502A motorway to the crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, which crosses the urban center of Talavera de la Reina, in the province of Toledo.
The objective of this work, agreed with the municipality, is to give character and urban use to the passage, through “humanization, traffic calming and improvement of the functional conditions of the passage”, the objective being integration into the urban fabric of the municipality, as reported by the ministry.
Specifically, measurements will be taken between kilometers 114,030 and 117,200 and between kilometers 118,465 and 119,855. They correspond to Avenida de Portugal, starting from Cosme Gómez de Tejada street; the Paseo del Padre Juan de Mariana, the Avenida de la Real Fábrica de Sedas, the Ronda del Cañillo and, already on the south bank of the Tagus, between the roundabout of the Los Navalmorales highway and the southwest variant of Talavera.
The actions consist of the renewal of the entire roadway and the deployment of cycle paths separately or jointly with the rest of the road users since, depending on each section, it will be necessary to adapt to the land available for the works, by sharing certain sections. with vehicles, others with pedestrians and others will be independent cycle paths. All this as part of the national cycling strategy.
Thus, in all sections, the actions consist of milling and replacement of the sidewalk, creation of the aforementioned cycle paths, depending on the sections; replacement of green spaces, installation of street furniture and signage, replacement of sidewalks and the public lighting network, traffic lights and all services affected by the work.
The complete action will take place in three phases: one on the right exterior side and another on the left, where the urbanization works, the execution of parking strips and sidewalks, the execution of sidewalks, the network will be carried out drainage, the lighting network and the replacement of services and gardens; and a third phase, in the area of the park and the pedestrian promenade along the river, where the construction of a pedestrian cycle route will be carried out, with flexible surfacing and the renewal of sidewalk sections with slabs for the routes accessible.
Once all actions have been completed, a rolling layer will be milled and distributed over the entire area. It will then be handed over to the municipal council.
This intervention is financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), as part of the humanization of travel program, which plans to invest 105 million euros (excluding VAT).
