Transport will replace one of the closed footbridges on the A-3 near Santa Eugenia

Following the neighborhood’s complaint taken up this Thursday by ABC, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility announced late this morning that it was considering building a new footbridge on the A-3 in Madrid to improve mobility on foot. and by bike between residential neighborhoods. area of ​​the Santa Eugenia and Cerro Almodóvar neighborhood, where educational, sports and leisure centers are located.

The future pedestrian bridge which will connect the two sides of the motorway will replace the current footbridge, located at kilometer 9,500 of the A-3, which will be dismantled and removed due to its condition and, in addition, the footbridge located at kilometer 9,400 will be repaired and reinforced.

The Ministry approved an emergency contract for this, after detecting “deteriorations typical of the lifespan of the two footbridges” and with the aim of correcting them “to guarantee the perfect condition of the structures”, reported the department headed by Óscar Puente.

The new infrastructure will be “more modern and accessible” and will have a cycle path, in line with the ministry’s objective of promoting “safer and more active mobility, putting the pedestrian at the center”.

For its part, the footbridge located at kilometer 9,400 will be repaired and reinforced, for which They will invest 1.42 million euros in both actions aimed at guaranteeing road safety.

A detour of almost a kilometer

The department headed by Óscar Puente indicated that “deteriorations typical of the useful life of the two footbridges” have been detected, which they are already working to correct “to guarantee the perfect condition of the structures”.

While these works are completed, which have not yet started, the footbridge located at kilometer 9.150 has been indicated as an alternative route. An alternative which forces residents to make a detour of almost a kilometer to reach the school, the institute and the neighborhood sports center. Furthermore, this only airbridge that remains open is deteriorated and saturated. Despite the urgency, those concerned estimate that it will take “months” for a solution to be found.
