Trophy ceremony puts the finishing touch to the Copa del Rey Repsol

The trophy ceremony this afternoon marked the end point at the XX Copa del Rey Repsol Vintage Boats. The island director of tourism promotion of the Consell Insular de Menorca, Begoña Mercadal; the advisor for economic promotion and tourism of the Mahon City Council, Suzanne Salomthe president of the Maritime Club of Mahon, Basilio Ferrer, the president of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, Joaquin Gonzalez-Devesathe naval commander of Mahón, Federico Perez, the representative of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands, Vicente Fullana; and commercial director of the Marine and Fishing division of Movilidad Iberia Repsol in the Balearic Islands, Miguel Sierraparticipated in the award ceremony.

The winners were Lady Anne (Big Boats), Chinook (Crab Era), Comet (Bermudian Era), Argos (Classics) and Happy Forever (Spirit of Tradition). winners of the twentieth edition of the test, organized by the Maritime Club of Mahón.

“We have experienced three excellent days of regattas and, in total, a high-quality sporting, social and cultural event. This was possible thanks to the presence in our port of a legendary fleet and the confidence that shipowners place in the organizational capacity of our club. The opportunity you offer us each year to transform our port into a floating museum is a real privilege, both for the Maritime Club and for the city of Mahón. We feel deeply honoured to be able to welcome you and offer you our hospitality,” said the president of the Maritime Club.

“All the boats competed with exemplary sportsmanship, but only a few managed to reach the podium. We sincerely congratulate the winners and we hope that you consider it an honour to have your names included in the list of winners of this regatta, in the same way that we feel honoured that your boats are part of the regatta,” he added.

The Maritime Club of Mahon paid tribute to century-old ships of the Copa del Rey Repsol that were present in this edition and had not yet received this recognition, which began last year. The boats honored are: Tuiga of the Yacht Club de Monaco (1909); La Dame Anne of Jaime Botín (1912); Mariette of 1915 of Tropical Shores (1915); Rowdy by Howard Dyer (1916).

From this very moment The organization of the next edition of the Repsol King’s Cup for Vintage Boats begins. The test will reach two decades of life and will take place in 2025 between August 26 and 30.
