Two weeks before the polls close in the United States, The Wall Street Journal published a new poll showing a slight advantage for Donald Trump. However, this data also indicates American doubts about his stability and mental capacity.
On Thursday, The Wall Street Journal published poll results showing a slight lead for Donald Trump in the upcoming US presidential election. However, there is a drawback. The results show a change from the previous poll in August, which showed Kamala Harris ahead. Trump now leads with 2% of the vote, while Harris had a similar majority in August.
The publication clarifies that 1,500 Americans participated in the survey and the error was 2.5%. Simply put, the poll is accurate, but a possible swing up or down by 2.5% could mean a closer race between Trump and Harris, or even the opposite result. This was also true in the previous poll, which favored Harris.
According to the poll, Trump leads Harris by about 10 percentage points when it comes to experience in the White House. However, more respondents believe Harris has the right mental toughness for the job. In fact, 13% more people think Trump lacks the stability and mental capacity to get the job done.
In politics, Trump enjoys increased support on issues such as the economy, immigration and the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. However, Harris has a strong lead on issues like abortion rights and Social Security. Voters are aware of Trump’s role in shaping the landmark Supreme Court decision that reversed decades of progress on women’s rights.
Additionally, 49% of respondents agreed with the statement “Trump is too extreme,” compared to 39% who felt the same about Harris. Meanwhile, 48% see Trump as a threat to the nation, while 43% say the same about Harris.
