Members of Donald Trump’s administration appointed to key positions faced threats to their safety and that of their families even before taking office.
Channel 7 writes about this.
In the past 24 hours, several candidates and appointees have been victims of various forms of violence, including bomb threats and harassment, transition team spokeswoman Caroline Levitt said. These incidents affected both the officials themselves and their loved ones.
Among those who received threats was attorney general candidate Matt Gaetz, who later decided to resign from the position after a wave of public criticism. Elise Stefanik, the US ambassador-designate to the United Nations, also reported threats related to an alleged bomb plant at her New York home. Future Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Lee Zeldin, who will lead the Environmental Protection Agency, faced similar situations.
Levitt noted that the threats included not only bomb threats, but also false calls to the police to the candidates’ addresses.
The FBI has confirmed that it is investigating threats made against representatives of the new Trump administration. The department’s statement noted that there are numerous reports of bombings and harassment, and that all complaints are thoroughly investigated in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
The office urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity. Trump and his team thanked law enforcement officials for their quick action to ensure the safety of the candidates and their families.
