NPR and PBS, who have long encountered governors to reduce their financing, receive part of their financing through the CPB state corporation. Nevertheless, Trump saw that this financing was no longer necessary in the current media environment.
“Financing the government for the media in this environment … is harmful to the appearance of independence of the press,” Trump wrote in an executive order.
He added: “The Council of the State Broadcasting Corporation CPB should stop direct funding for the NPR and PBS, in accordance with my administration policy, to ensure that federal funds are not used to support the prejudice and partisan news coverage. The Council must cancel the current direct financing to the maximum extent allowed by law and refuse to provide future financing. ”
