Trump names new FBI chief

Donald Trump, winner of the United States presidential election, announced the appointment of his advisor and former official from his first administration, Cash Patel, to the position of head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“I am proud to announce that Kashyap “Cash” Patel will become the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “Cash is a brilliant lawyer,” Trump wrote in his Truth Social.

Patel previously served as chief of staff at the Pentagon and senior director of counterterrorism at the US National Security Council. Trump notes that Patel played a key role in fighting allegations of a Russian connection to Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Patel is 44 years old, single and has a law degree. He was born into a family of immigrants from India. While working in the White House, Patel was allegedly an informal adviser to Trump on Ukraine, Politico reported in 2019, citing sources. Patel, denying these allegations, took the publication to court.

In addition, according to information from Axios, Trump allegedly wanted to appoint Patel as deputy director of the CIA at the end of his first term, so that he could replace him later. Gina Haspelwho then headed the department. Trump wanted his loyal follower to take his place, the publication stated.
