US President-elect Donald Trump announced his decision to nominate former member of the US House of Representatives Tulsi Gabbard to the position of Director of National Intelligence. Reuters reports this.
“I know Tulsi will bring to our intelligence community the fearless spirit that has defined her distinguished career, defending our constitutional rights and ensuring peace from a position of strength.” — the agency quotes an excerpt from a statement published by the Trump transition team, which Kommersant quotes.
It should be noted that Gabbard has served in the United States National Guard since 2001, is a veteran of the Iraq War and worked for the Fox News channel. The candidate for the position of Director of National Intelligence of the United States was previously a member of the Democratic Party, but left it in 2022 and subsequently supported Donald Trump in the elections.
Since January 2021, the position of head of the National Intelligence Service has been held by Avril Haynes.
