United States President-elect Donald Trump announced his nomination as the next Sean Duffy Transportation SecretaryFox News host and former Wisconsin congressman.
Duffy, 53, served in Congress between 2011 and 2019, and currently hosts a show about finance and politics on the Fox Business network and also contributes to Fox News, Trump’s favorite news channel.
He is the second cabinet member announced by Trump to work for Fox, following new Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
Duffy rose to fame in the late 1990s through his appearance on several reality television shows, before becoming the district attorney of Ashland County, Wisconsin.
In a statement, Trump noted that Duffy “is a STAR of Fox News” and that as a father of nine, he knows “how important it is for families to be able to travel safely and tranquility.
The president-elect assured that his Secretary of Transportation “will prioritize excellence, competence, competitiveness and beauty when rebuilding America’s roads, tunnels, bridges and airports.”
“Sean will use his experience and the relationships he has built over many years in Congress to maintain and rebuild our country’s infrastructure and fulfill our mission to usher in the golden age of travel,” the next president said.
Trump said Duffy was during his time in Congress “a respected voice and communicator” by his Republican colleagues and that he championed “fiscal responsibility, economic growth and rural development.”
If confirmed by the Senate, Duffy will replace Pete Buttigieg as head of the Department of Transportation, who served in the role during Joe Biden’s administration and is one of the Democratic Party’s rising stars.
