Trump sues CBS

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is suing CBS for $10 billion and accusing it of election interference over the network’s refusal to publish an unedited version of an interview with his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, according to a lawsuit obtained by the network. FoxNews.

“This action concerns CBS’ biased and unlawful actions to interfere with the election and voting process through malicious, misleading and deceptive misrepresentations and news materials intended to (a) confuse, deceive and deceive the public and (b) “try to tip the balance in favor of the Democratic Party in the face of the tense 2024 presidential elections.” – says the former president’s lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed in Texas and alleges that the television station violated local law. Texas is more likely to be classified as a Republican state, although CBS is legally registered in the Democratic states of New York and Delaware.

An interview with Harris on CBS aired on 60 Minutes in early October. In a preview released before the interview, Harris was unable to clearly answer the host’s question about US policy toward Israel, for which she was ridiculed by Republicans. However, the full version shown on the television channel did not contain this episode. Trump accused CBS of fraud and demanded that the network be stripped of its broadcast license as well as provide a full transcript of the interview.

CBS refused to publish the full, unedited version of the interview at Trump’s request, citing the Constitution’s First Amendment guarantee of free speech. The network admitted that the interview was indeed edited, but only to include “as many responses to questions from the vice president as possible, as the 21-minute interview format allows.”

Previously, amid Trump’s accusations against CBS, CNN reported that Trump’s interviews were also edited. In particular, pro-Republican Fox News reportedly removed “incoherent and false statements” from Trump’s appearance on a segment of the morning show Fox and Friends in which the presidential candidate interacted with customers and employees at a barbershop in the Bronx. Thus, Fox News cut off Trump’s calls not to trust the Wall Street Journal, which is part of the same media group as the channel, as well as an incoherent response to a question about tax reform and immigrants in the United States. Fox News confirmed to CNN that the interview was edited as all barbershop interview segments are edited.

The presidential elections in the United States will be held on November 5, RIA Novosti reminds.
