Former CIA chief Leon Panetta, in an interview with the British publication The Guardian, expressed the opinion that Donald Trump, upon being elected president, will give Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “carte blanche” to carry out any action in the Middle East.
Panetta believes that such support could lead to an escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran. According to him, Trump is willing to grant Netanyahu complete freedom of action in the region and, in fact, promises to support any of his decisions.
Panetta also noted that Netanyahu would likely not waste this opportunity. In this context, he raised the question of whether the Israeli prime minister plans to expand military operations targeting Iran, which could lead to even greater instability in the region.
Donald Trump himself, after winning the election, emphasized that his goal is not to incite new wars, but to end existing conflicts. He pointed out the importance of overcoming the differences of recent years and the need for unification.
During the election campaign, relations between Tehran and Jerusalem were tense. Both sides have exchanged threats more than once. Recently, the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Ali Fadavi, said that Iran does not rule out the possibility of a pre-emptive strike by the United States and Israel.
At the same time, he emphasized that Iran is prepared for such a development of events and believes that the Israelis do not have enough resources for an open conflict, but in case of aggression, Iran will be ready to respond.
Previously, Kursor reported that Trump intends to destroy the “alliance” of Russia, China, Iran and the DPRK.
Trump plans to approach each of these states bilaterally, using his famous negotiating style.
