The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election and expressed his hope that Palestinian aspirations for their own state will be supported.

In his speech, Abbas noted that the Palestinian side relies on the assistance of the United States in matters related to their rights to self-determination and statehood.
“We trust that the United States will support the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people under its leadership,” Abbas said.
He stressed that his people fight for “freedom and independence” within the framework of international norms and principles.
