The shooting that compromised Donald Trump’s life this Sunday at his Florida golf club once again highlights the American secret services, which depend on the White House and are responsible for guaranteeing the security of the former president and Republican candidate in the November 5 elections.
The work assigned to the agents assigned to their security is, as a priority, to prevent the protected person from being at the mercy of a shooter. It is therefore essential to control the perimeter in which there is a direct risk, ensuring that no armed individual is within range of the one they are supposed to protect, in this case Donald Trump.
It was clear that this basic principle of prevention was not respected on July 13, when a sniper managed to position himself on a rooftop near the stage where Trump was giving a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The assailant had time to shoot Trump several times before being killed by security forces. In fact, he nearly killed the former president: one of the bullets grazed his right ear. The gunfire ended the life of one of the rally-goers, a Trump supporter who stepped in to cover his daughter.
