IDF Reserve Officer Gregory Tamar noted that the plan proposed by Donald Trump’s administration to resolve the Palestinian issue was the most beneficial of all those the United States has proposed in the past four decades.
Grigory Tamar stated this in an interview with journalist Dmitry Gordon.
According to him, since Trump took office in 2016, he has actively proposed that Israel resolve this difficult issue, and his plan could be a favorable option for the Israeli side. However, far-right forces in Israel considered it insufficiently beneficial and caused strong rejection among Palestinian Arabs.
Tamar opined that although the plan failed, looking back, especially at the tragic events of October 7, she admits that the proposed model could be an acceptable scenario to stabilize the situation in the region. The basis of this plan, as Tamar explained, was a concept developed by an Israeli politician in the late 1960s.
As Tamar clarified, the plan provided for the creation of a Palestinian state, but in a limited format. The Palestinian side could receive a completely demilitarized state, which would provide security for Israel.
Also important would be the IDF presence in the Jordan Valley, which Tamar considered a key factor. In addition to this, the plan included significant economic injections that could stabilize the PA economy.
Thus, according to Tamar, although the plan was not implemented, it could be a step towards stability and peace in the region if it received the support of both parties.
