US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is considering a draft executive order to create a “military council” made up of retired military personnel.
Oku.AzThis was reported by the publication “The Wall Street Journal” (WSJ), which is familiar with the draft order.
The new “military council” will reportedly have powers to investigate the affairs of generals and recommend the dismissal of those unfit for office.
It was reported that if Trump approves the order, he will be able to speed up the process of firing generals and admirals who are deemed to “lack the necessary leadership qualities.”
The publication noted that Trump, as commander in chief, will be able to fire any officer he wants, but the foreign council to which he will appoint members will be able to carry out purges outside of traditional procedures.
The draft order states that the goal is to organize a study focused on “leadership skills, strategic readiness, and commitment to military skills.”
The project does not specify what actions officials must take to demonstrate that they meet these standards.
It was also emphasized that those deemed unfit will be retired at their current rank within 30 days.
