Turkish MIT chief: “Azerbaijan-Armenia peace deal will ensure opening of Zangezur corridor”

The head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT), Ibrahim Kalin, said that the final peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia is important for development in the Caucasus.

Oku.AzAnadolu Agency reports that Kalin spoke about this during his speech at the 2nd Baku Security Forum, held in Azerbaijan on September 14-15.

The theme of this year’s conference, which was attended by intelligence and security chiefs from some 50 countries, was “Modern Challenges to Securing Global Transportation Networks.”

At the conference where regional and global issues were discussed, MIT President Ibrahim Kalin met with his colleagues from many countries, held bilateral meetings and discussed current events.

In his speech, he addressed the crises of confidence experienced in the global environment, the growing threat of terrorism and the humanitarian consequences that this causes.

Ibrahim Kal drew attention to the successful steps taken towards normalization of life in Karabakh, which was liberated from occupation by Azerbaijan after the 44-day war, and stressed the importance of signing the final peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan for stability and development in the Caucasus.

The head of the MIT noted that the long-term peace that must be achieved will also ensure relations along the Azerbaijan-Armenia-Nakhchivan-Turkey-Europe line, including the opening of the Zangezur corridor.
