In 2025, a gas trading center will be created in Istanbul within the framework of the international gas center project. The project will be implemented in partnership with the Turkish company Botaş and the Russian gas giant Gazprom.
Oku.Az “Milliyet” reports that this was reported by Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
“During 2025, we will create a solid infrastructure that will manage the trading platform in the Istanbul Financial Center. We have sent a memorandum of understanding to the parties,” Bayraktar stressed. He also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed to Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he is willing to give relevant instructions to Gazprom.
The main feature of the new gas center will be the Istanbul Gas Index, which will determine the price of gas. “Now, when Russia sells its gas, it will say: ‘I sell this gas with the Istanbul gas index formula,'” the Turkish minister explained.
