Türkiye announced that it “expands its protected sea zones” after the initiative of Greece to create national naval parks in the Ionin Sea and the Aegean Sea in areas of Greek sovereignty, in which he reacted greatly.
Ankara officially announced two new protected sea areas, published by a map ”: one off the coast of IMBRO in the North Aegean and one of the finish of Antal.
According to the released map, Ankara disputes the influence of Castelloriso in the sea zones during a fixed Turkish position.
The Turkish media report that these areas were included in the National Harting of the Turkish Sea Planning, which is registered in the intergovernmental oceanographic committee (ILO) in the framework of UNESCO.
According to Turkish officials, “recently created zones are aimed at protecting the marine environment, allowing to ensure the continuation of economic activity, such as fishing and tourism.”
The proclamations were coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the competent authorities and the contribution of the National Research Center for Marine Law (Dehuki) of Ankara University.
