During the three summer months of 2024, 2.73 million Russians visited Turkey, the number of trips was 7% more than in June-August of the previous year, according to preliminary data from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. This figure marked a record since the beginning of the pandemic.
In June-August 2023, Russian citizens made 2.55 million trips to Turkey, and in the same period in 2022 – 2.15 million trips. In the summer of 2021 and 2020, Turkish statistics recorded the arrival of only 1.8 million and 454.6 thousand Russians in the country, respectively. At that time, international air traffic was limited due to the fight against coronavirus.
Turkey is traditionally one of the most popular destinations for Russian tourists to travel abroad. Although the tourist flow is recovering, it has not yet reached the pre-pandemic level of 2019, RBC clarifies. Then, between June and August, 3.16 million Russian citizens visited Turkey, 15% more than this summer.
