Telegram has removed the People Nearby feature and disabled media uploads to the Telegraph blogging platform.

“We removed the People Nearby feature, which was used by less than 0.1% of Telegram users but caused problems with bots and scammers. We also added new media on our offline blog, Telegraph, which was being abused by anonymous people. We have disabled file downloads,” the statement said.
Durov added that the majority of messenger users are not involved in crimes, but the 0.001% who are involved in illegal activities create a bad image for Telegram. According to him, this endangers the interests of 1 billion Messenger users.
“That’s why we try to distance ourselves from criticism of moderation,” he said.
Durov said that instead of the “People Nearby” feature, the messenger will have a “Businesses Nearby” feature, where legitimate and verified companies will be presented, they will be able to display their product catalogs and accept payments without any problems.
