Two people have been arrested for the violent death of a man and a woman, which occurred this morning in a fire on San Millán Street, in Logroño. The deceased were inside a former bank branch and, although at first it was thought that the death was due to the fire, emergency services immediately detected signs of violent death in both bodies.
The call reporting the fire at number 13 of this street in Logroño was received fifteen minutes before one in the morning. The intervention of the Police and Firefighters was immediate. After finding the two bodies at the back of this former Bankia branch and checking for signs of violent death, the investigation began.
As Eduardo Esteban Pinillos, head of the La Rioja judicial police brigade, explains, four hours later, around five in the morning, two men were arrested for their alleged involvement in these violent deaths. They are two men aged 40 and 46 who are known to the Police because they have numerous criminal records for property crimes.
Although no further details have been given at this time, it was revealed that the arrest took place on a public street, on the same street where the crime took place. It was also stressed that it was not excluded that other arrests were linked to these events.
As National Police officials explained, several people had been spending the night in this former bank branch for some time and among them were the two deceased, the man and the woman. At the time of the incident, they were alone inside. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and it is not immediately clear whether it occurred before or after the deaths.
